ABOUT THE WORK
"Coming back to the one place I have ever truly called home after 2+ decades, San Francisco and the Bay Area continue to inspire and influence my creative narrative as an artist and mother of two children. I express gratitude daily for being here and also know how hard you have to work your ass off to stay here. Balancing that keeps the cycle going. This painting captures the beauty of the Bay Area's landscape merging with the vibrant and captivating cityscape of San Francisco. It reflects a sense of motion and transformation, while also hinting at the comfort of familiar cycles and patterns. Living in the East Bay allows me to see the city from a different perspective. The Spring palette is enchanting, vibrant, and even electric; much like the energy of the San Francisco Bay Area aka Emerald City (to me at least). This artwork is about reflection, a driving force for my return and daily practice as an artist. The layering reveals a multitude of textures; organic and architectural; that harmoniously fuse into one composition; much like the diversity of cultures and characters co-existing in the Bay Area."—Chelsea Owens
This work is included in the "Urban Tides: A San Francisco Story" group exhibition at Voss Gallery (July 13 - August 17, 2024).
ABOUT THE ARTIST
"My paintings delve deep into the complexities of both our internal and external landscapes, merging elements of reality with psychological undertones to spark boundless imagination and discovery. Through the metamorphic power of color alchemy, texture, technique, and intricate layering, my art tells its own unique story; revealing vulnerability and growth within the tapestry of my creative journey. Seeking harmony through the interplay of color and form, my paintings reflect the current state of my heart, mind, body, and soul, urging viewers to confront challenges and take risks in their own lives."—Chelsea Owens
