Voss Gallery presents “Smile,” a solo exhibition of new emoji-inspired sculptures and drawings by Gale Hart that examine the irony of an anthropomorphized yellow dot with limited expressions widely used to communicate complex behavior.
The exhibition is on view July 15 - August 13, 2022. Join us for an opening reception with the artist on Friday, July 15, 6-9PM. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 12-6PM or by appointment.
“Since everyone's online all the time, people rely on emojis to express their thoughts and gestures to an audience they rarely or never see in person. Some say emotions and experiences cannot be described in words and that emojis help to clarify intent. But we know people pretend online that their lives are awesome sothere's potential for the sunny yellow emoji to also be a cryptic warning sign.”–Gale Hart
