ABOUT THE WORK
"Since my return to San Francisco after a long hiatus, one of my very favorite means of transportation is via the amazing collection of vintage streetcars from a medley of cities all over the world. Their design elements are dynamic, even futuristic, yet the scale remains human, very much like our city by the Bay. History, design, color, and rhythm combine to produce a most enjoyable urban public transportation experience… I feel like I am riding into the future through the past!"—Simo Neri
This work is included in the "Urban Tides: A San Francisco Story" group exhibition at Voss Gallery (July 13 - August 17, 2024).
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Italy, Simo Neri has lived in California, Paris, and New York, and has recently re-established her studio in San Francisco. Influenced by these different cultures, as well as by studies in art and philosophy, she has been combining photographic and painting techniques since 1978. Neri’s installations of large “photo curtains”, “photo kimonos”, and “photo falls”, are rhythmic and meditative in nature. Her recent work explores new printing techniques on silk, linen, and cotton canvas. Simo Neri’s work has been exhibited and collected in the United States, Europe, and Japan.
