ABOUT THE WORK

"“Stroll on Fillmore” is part of my San Francisco Neighborhood series which celebrates the personality of different city districts. This piece captures the flavor of Pacific Heights, a district abundant with palatial architecture, panoramic bay views, blooming gardens, and lively sidewalk cafes. Using a mixture of bright and pastel hues, multiple layers, and flowing shapes, I convey the breezy elegance of this environ."—Michele de la Menardiere

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michele de la Menardiere is an abstract painter based in San Francisco, California. She was born in Washington, DC and received her BA (HONS) from Chelsea College of Art in London, England.

Michele’s paintings are part of numerous private and public collections including the U.S. State Department’s prestigious Art in Embassies Program. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, KQED’s Check Please! Bay Area, and in high-end home stagings for Sothebys and the Ritz Carlton. Her paintings were selected for several public art projects including large-scale art walls at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Crystal City, Virginia, Emerge, a public artwalk in Washington, DC, and the 2015 Superbowl 50 Artwalk in San Francisco, California.

"I use the abstract language of bold color, organic form, and dynamic shape to explore the visceral landscape. Working instinctively, I use brushes, spatulas, and sponges to coat on, knife off, and wash away, creating compositions with multiple layers, saturated fields of color, and unexpected marks. Each piece morphs and transforms through equal parts structure and spontaneity. For me, painting is the continual experience of exploring my emotional realm and bringing it into some kind of material form."—Michele de la Menardiere
