ABOUT THE WORK
"For this work, I wanted to explore the vibrancy of Chinatown, a serene neighborhood of commerce that resembles a sleeping dragon, that wakes from time to time to breathe explosive life and sounds felt by the city as a whole."—Ted Wong
This work is included in the "Urban Tides: A San Francisco Story" group exhibition at Voss Gallery (July 13 - August 17, 2024).
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tedwongt, a Chinese-American painter, was born and is currently based in San Francisco, CA. A self-taught artist, he skillfully combines freedom, curiosity, and intensity in his abstractions. Curators have lauded his creations as exemplifying “sophisticated graffiti.”
Expression takes center stage in Tedwongt’s work. Despite being a reserved artist, he channels a range of emotions, including discouragement, fear, determination, happiness, and sadness onto his canvas. Each stroke captures unspoken sentiments, making painting his medium for articulating thoughts otherwise lost.
Reflecting on his artistic journey, Tedwongt shares, “My current focus revolves around the concept of letting go. I aspire to remove myself from the equation, allowing the work to flow organically. I’ve recognized the tendency to overthink outcomes rather than embracing the journey. This year, my goal is to encapsulate emotion rather than fabricate it. I want my work to emanate a natural and authentic feel.”
HANGING & CARE
Artwork is ready to hang on the wall; hanging wire is secured on the back (nail and hook needed). Dust raw canvas with a clean, soft brush and HEPA-filtered vacuum to clean. Using a new, clean brush prevents transfer of grime from previous dustings.
