ABOUT THE WORK

"San Francisco, to me, is a vibrant tapestry woven with the threads of countless artists' dreams and histories. Among its rich street art heritage, the works of the iconic fnnch stand out as beacons of stability and hope in our ever-changing and often unpredictable world. His honey bears, in their whimsical charm, mirror the diverse residents of San Francisco, inviting each viewer to find a part of themselves within.

In a city where the struggle to thrive is a constant companion, fnnch's art offers a rare sanctuary, a reminder that even in the midst of turmoil, there is beauty and optimism to be found. Inspired by his profound impact on the city's cultural landscape, I have chosen to create an homage to his work. This piece is a heartfelt tribute to the positive influence his art has had on both the city and its people, a testament to the enduring power of creativity and resilience."Nala Kun

This work is included in the "Urban Tides: A San Francisco Story" group exhibition at Voss Gallery (July 13 - August 17, 2024).

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nala Kun (b. Tyumen, Russia, 1985) is an oil painter known for her utilization of vibrant colors and a signature spiral mark-making technique based in San Francisco, CA. Lvova holds a patent for her unique style of painting, aptly named ‘TwiddleART.’ She has shown at the Palace of Fine Arts, SOMArts Cultural Center, and Voss Gallery in San Francisco, CA and the Siberian Center of Contemporary Art, Novosibirsk State Art Museum, and Contemporaries of Canvas in Russia, among others. Her work is included in the permanent collections of Stanford University, CA and G8 Gallery, Russia.

Employing the tenderness of her signature spiral mark-making technique to depict the transcendent mosaic of human intimacy, Lvova reclaims ownership of sexual imagery from the predominantly female gaze. Cropped compositions of sensual scenes, derived from pornographic sources, are subverted, amplified, and transformed into vibrant, iridescent works. Figures are distilled to their elemental forms, becoming textured, luscious fragments of an immersive kaleidoscope. Lvova’s blunt representation of desire from the female viewpoint considers the curiosity of sexual impulse and intrigue. Passion and play spin free from boundaries as identifying features approach a mesmeric universal. Within these couplings and collisions of color swirls a hopeful, hidden question: who gets to define ecstasy?

HANGING & CARE

Artwork is ready to hang on the wall; hanging wire is secured on the back (nail and hook needed). Dust raw canvas with a clean, soft brush and HEPA-filtered vacuum to clean. Using a new, clean brush prevents transfer of grime from previous dustings.
