ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ester is a figurative painter and weaver. She gravitates to the kinds of things in her work that she felt uncool for liking as a teenage girl, like pop music and celebrities. She often returns to the images and media that she sought out when first figuring out her own desires, anxieties, and queerness. While those references and ideas felt gravely intense and illicit at the time, she looks to them now with lightness and humor. She likes using painting and weaving as methods of prolonging the time she can spend looking, especially at the subjects that she feels maybe should only be glanced at. She is particularly drawn to references from pop culture and her personal archive of informal photography, family pictures, and objects. She aims to honor the importance of non-heroic qualities like shallowness, indulgence, and sentimentality as intrinsically important in a personal and global sense.

HANGING & CARE

Artwork is ready to hang on the wall; hanging wire is secured on the back (nail and hook needed). Dust raw canvas with a clean, soft brush and HEPA-filtered vacuum to clean. Using a new, clean brush prevents transfer of grime from previous dustings.
