"This piece is inspired by common Japanese textile patterns. I hand-paint a pattern on the base, stencil a contrasting one on top, and explore how they work and move together. They are named 'Wagashi' after the traditional sweets often eaten with tea - like wagashi, these paintings are small and carefully crafted." —Heather Robinson
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Heather Robinson studied architecture at Texas A&M University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which gave her a love of structure and a fascination with how people choose to decorate the spaces and things around them. She has an indiscriminate love of pattern and color, adores the handmade and the accidental, and has a great fondness for the imperfect. Since 2007, she's been painting in her studio in the Mission Bernal neighborhood of San Francisco.
