"Sometimes people ask me how long it takes to finish a painting. My answer is usually they are all different. Some take a couple days, others take years. If you were to x-ray this painting you would find a journey of information. When I finally came to this piece of a hummingbird and flowers, my thought was how fast a hummingbird moves compared to the slow roll of a growing flower. I felt the comparison of the idea behind the painting and the completion of the painting compared to how many paintings are under this final one was interesting."–John Osgood
