ABOUT THE WORK
This work is part of The Tracy Piper's "SEEN," a collaborative art project of 50 eye paintings that were made during the month of October. For this series, the artist organized an open call for her collectors, fans, and fellow artists to be featured as one of her models. Each participant answered the same question: What does it mean to feel seen? Each painting and response is featured in the artist’s second book aptly titled “SEEN”.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FEEL SEEN?
"Oh boy. Well, no one *truly* knows you and never will. People all have a mental model of you in their heads. They know an imagined version of you often badly translated through a game of telephone and outright not witness to the vast majority of your lived experience, compounded with confirmation bias and other tricks the brain plays. Short of our minds merging in a scifi singularity, we are all swimming through our lives alone where it counts most, no matter how numerous or loving our relationships are. It's cold, isolating, and scary to think about this reality.
Sometimes a partner, a friend, or a stranger says something about you so true it rhymes with your soul, and for a moment that coldness melts away."—Micheal Feldman
