ABOUT THE WORK

This work was included in John Osgood's "Layers" duo exhibition with Trent Thompson at Voss Gallery (August 4-28, 2021).

"This piece began as a definite portrait and I had a choice to make. I asked myself if this is what the piece was going to be or if there is more to the painting. When I'm creating paintings that are not commissioned works, I enjoy the process of watching the pieces become what they are. It's a soul-searching journey to find the composition, with colors that work, that come full circle to a complete painting. Within that time frame, while listening to music, watching tv or films, or talking to family and friends, words, symbols, and likenesses make their way into my work. From every direction this painting is hung, I feel there is a different story to the piece. Just like people and their view points."–John Osgood
