"This painting is based around struggles as a Black person. I wanted to figure out a way to show pain without showing anyone being harmed. The first thing that came to mind was the noose. Black history has a lot to do with the noose, but the unseen truth in the noose in my eyes is that we are all hanging from the same rope lately. That rope was given to many of us throughout generations to keep a legacy going, but lately it looks more and more apparent that the grip of the rope is getting even tighter around our necks every other day." —Tyrell D.
