ABOUT THE WORK

"I often find that I'm drawn to certain work I've completed. While trying a new collage idea, the inspiration for As Above was born. The vibrant colors seemed to capture something personally etheric and spiritual.

There’s an ancient Egyptian saying credited to the God Thoth and the Emerald Tablet “As Above, So Below," referencing the "infinite." Many Indigenous peoples live by the reasoning that what we do on earth is reflected in the stars and planets. Accepting my actions is a constant work in progress. I reach and am reaching; I am lost and found—all under the stars. No doubt this series will keep evolving just as I do."—Deena Smith
