ABOUT THE WORK
"This was the last piece created for the "Layers" duo exhibition. Throughout the last four months, this canvas was a collage work with aerosol and acrylic. I liked how the piece was looking but it needed something...I have this idea where if a section is not working in a painting, that if you paint over that part you once liked and it didn't work, if the composition worked previously painting over it, it will come back. However, the first domino needs to fall to see if change needs to happen. This can be the same in relationships, work environments, and moving forward in life. When I want to make a big change in the work I am involved with, I usually go from a light to dark, (and vice versa). Taking out some of the darker areas in this piece lead to the artwork going into a familiar subject matter of birds and I began to feel it. It didn't take too long before this piece got the point of how I really wanted it to be. Jumping into collage from a long absence of a way of creating felt great too."–John Osgood
