"This piece is part of a series exploring vintage cars, the streets they inhabit and the stories they tell. The car featured in this piece is a 1982 Subaru BRAT. BRAT stands for "Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter." I view automobiles as an extension of the human character. They age, they change, and they tell a story of their past. The final piece is built from photographs that are digitally collaged, then cut out and physically collaged again in multiple layers of resin and acrylic."—Mike Sanchez
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am currently working on multiple series exploring society's relationship to iconic words and objects. Photography has always been at the core of my work, but I've been working more and more to push the bounds of two-dimensional design, and expand my work into the three-dimensional realm. I've been experimenting with new materials and building methods, always looking for unexplored avenues into which my art can delve. Regardless of the medium, the work always comes back to that relationship between perceived environments and the people that inhabit them.
